For gym owners

Half of new members no longer come by month six.

Earlie gives each of them a personal trainer in iMessage who knows your machines, writes first and plans every visit. Source

Put your gym in Earlie

The first gym in Earlie: Stayfit Urbano, Cluj.

You: at the gym. the 45° leg press is taken

Earlie: No problem. Take the seated leg press instead: same muscles, and it's on your gym's list. Last time you did 3 sets of 10 at 60 kg, so start there.

You: done, 3x10 at 60

Earlie: Logged ✓ Next: lat pulldown, 3 sets of 10 to 12. First time on it? Set the knee pad so your legs are locked under it.

Why they drop out

  1. No time, or other things come first

New members who dropped out named this as their biggest barrier. Source 4

  2. They don't know what to do

A third of the people who find the gym intimidating say they don't know what they are doing. In a UK survey, 55% of gym goers said the same. Source 5Source 6

  3. No habit in the first months

New members who came often, at the same time and place, in their first three months came more often later in the year. Source 2

What keeps them

What the research says keeps members, and what Earlie does about it.

  1. Coming in, every month

    Source 3

Earlie writes first. A short message every morning, and on a gym day he asks if they want the plan.

    How the morning message works
  2. Knowing what to do

    Source 5Source 6

Earlie plans each visit on your machines and takes them through it, one exercise at a time. First time on a machine, he says how to set it up.

  3. A habit in the first months

    Source 2

Every set goes into their log, and the next visit starts from last time's numbers.

    How the training log works
  4. A personal plan early, not a generic reminder

    Source 7Source 8

Every message is about that person's day and that person's training. A machine is taken? One other machine for the same muscles, from your list.

    A picture of each move

We have not measured Earlie's effect on retention yet. The numbers on this page are the industry's.

Your floor, every machine on it. In every member's pocket.

Your gym, in Earlie

This is what Earlie holds for a gym.

Every machine, with its type, the exercises it is for and how to set it up. Free weights and cardio too. We build it once from your photos, and add a new machine from one photo.

What it asks of you

One walk around your floor with a phone.

  1. Step 1

    You send your floor

A photo of each machine, or the equipment list you already have. Stayfit Urbano sent 37 photos.

  2. Step 2

    We build your machine list

Each machine with its exercises and setup notes. We check every exercise against its picture.

  3. Step 3

    Your members train with it

They tell Earlie they train at your gym. From then on, every visit is planned on your floor.

  4. Step 4

    New machine? One photo.

Bought a new one? Send a photo. A member can send one too. We add it, and Earlie tells them.

Questions

What gym owners ask us.

Something else? Write to Alex.

Do you have retention numbers for Earlie?

Not yet. Earlie is in early access, and we have not measured its effect on a gym's retention. The numbers on this page come from published research, listed under Sources.

Does Earlie replace my trainers?

No. Earlie coaches people in their Messages, before, during and after a visit. He runs no classes and no sessions in your gym.

Do my members need an app?

No. Earlie is a contact in Messages on iPhone, iPad and Mac. They text him like a friend.

Who can join, and when?

Anyone signs up on earlie.ai. Spots open as we have room, in signup order. Early access is free.

What happens to my photos?

We use them only to build your machine list, and we never put them on the site. Please photograph the machines, not the people training on them.

Do you show my gym's name?

Only if you say yes. Then it appears on this page, the way Stayfit Urbano does.

What if I want to stop?

Write to us, and we take your gym's name off earlie.ai. Your members keep their own training log.
